2019 - The First Marathon
The entire golf marathon began with an idea from three friends sitting around trying to figure out how to eliminate any excuse that juniors may have that would keep them from playing golf at the Wichita City golf courses. Green fees could be an expense that parents, kids, or anyone wouldn’t or couldn’t pay for, therefore, the junior golfers wouldn’t be able to play. The golf marathon was hosted at MacDonald Golf Course on April 22, 2019. There were around 25 players who played that day. Corey Novascone and Joe Vosburgh played 117 holes. Most of the day. Jason Novascone, Pete Krsnich, Joey Krsnich, Tyler Chapman, Phil Iseman, Max Iseman, and Eric Johnsen played 100+ holes. There were many many birdies by all. KSN News came out and interviewed them and showed the crew on the course. It was a great day and all were tired when done with the first marathon. The crew then went to Walts to enjoy a cold brew and some wonderful hamburgers. In 2019, the Wichita Golf Marathon fell just a little short of its $25,000 goal and raised $18, 906.27. Juniors Play FORE free was offered at all public golf courses from June 1st, 2019 to September 3rd, 2019. We were worried that there could be a huge influx in play since it was free, and we were correct. They had to cover the difference in the cost of play. The Wichita Golf Marathon was billed by the city for 2110 rounds for a total of $18,965. Junior rounds dramatically increased at all Wichita Public golf courses in 2019. Junior rounds totaled 7,507 rounds. This number almost doubled the previous YOY rounds played. Not only did the marathon FREE golf get 2110 rounds but juniors after the promotion ended continued to get out and play the rest of the season. We appreciate our sponsors.
