2021 - Golf is BACK!
The Wichita Golf Marathon is back. Golf as a whole is back. People being off work during the pandemic really lit a fire in the golf industry. It was really hard to get a tee time on City of Wichita public golf courses. The Wichita Golf Marathon held over a good balance from the previous year’s funds that were raised. This meant we’d still set the goal of $25,000 however we had a considerable amount in the bank - lets extend the time availability to for the Juniors to Play FORE Free.
The Wichita Golf Marathon was hosted on March 19, 2021 at MacDonald Golf Park. The city of Wichita, was one of the best partners around lowered the rate that we pay the city per junior green fee from $9 a round the first 2 years to $8. We are very thankful for this partnership with the City of Wichita. We are grateful that they are trying to grow the game as we are - and continue to have an open mind. They did not charge us for the course - did not charge us for the use of the golf carts at MacDonald and it was a great day. The day started off with a frost delay and was a little chilly on this March morning. Once again, Corey Novasone, Joe Vosburgh, Pete Krsnich, Jason Novascone, Tyler Chapman, Phil Iseman, Max Iseman, Hannah Perkins, Maddie Walden, Dr. Eric Larson, Doug Knipp, James Hoppes all played 100+ holes. That is the goal. Corey, Joe, Pete, Ryan, Max Joey Krsnich, all played over 115 holes. Still couldn't beat the record set in the first year. Rick and Gary Navarro had their crew out from MV Purchasing and got it done on their side of the marathon and raised some good funds once again.
Now on to the good stuff. The Wichita Golf Marathon raised $22,296.96. That is outstanding in the times that we are living in. The city of Wichita billed the Wichita Golf Marathon bi-weekly and the junior rounds continue to skyrocket. Numbers are still coming in for rounds played. The Wichita Golf Marathon extended the time they were allowed to pay for the green fees from April 16th thru December 31st. With these funds that are carried over this is a bonus and a thing that we will continue to try and do each year now. Extend the program to the juniors. We don’t have the exact numbers of rounds play - will update this blog when those come in. Once again -we’d like to thank the city of Wichita. Keith and MacDonald Golf park and the rest of the staff there. MV Purchasing, Pete Krsnich, and First Tee - Greater Wichita for donating their processing and bookkeeping to Wichita Golf Marathon. Thanks, and we’ll see you next year.
